Golden Toad - Bufo periglenes

Golden Toad is rare verity of toad found in tropical forest of Costa Rica. Herpetologists first described about the golden toads in the year 1966. Golden toads were abundantly found in the tropical ares of Monte Verde regions of Costa Rica. So they were sometimes called as Monteverde toads. International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN has included the Golden toad in the list of extinct species. Golden toads are true toads scientifically classified in the name as Bufo periglenes. It is shiny orange in color during the rainy seasons. Jay Savage, herpetologist who first described about Golden toads was surprised by seeing the shinny orange color of golden toads. Female golden toads are bigger in size than males with dark dots on their body. They lives or spend more time underground and only comes out during their mating period mainly rainy seasons in cloud forests of Northen Costa Rica
